The first days of school are always special at Kenneth Gordon Maplewood School. Our classrooms, hallways, and playgrounds are once again alive with laughter, curiosity, and energy as students return to a familiar place where they feel a sense of belonging and pride. This year, we are also thrilled to welcome many new students and families into our community, including those who are neurodiverse. It has been a joy to see them settle in and connect with their peers and teachers.

At KGMS, we know that every learner is unique, especially our neurodiverse students. That’s why our dedicated educators and support teams work closely with students to provide personalized, student-centred learning. From our small class sizes to our 1:1 daily tutoring model, we are committed to meeting each neurodiverse student where they are and helping them grow in confidence, capability, and independence.

A Warm Start to the Year

Our community came together for a joyful Back-to-School BBQ, where families, both new and returning, connected with staff, enjoyed games, food, and activities, and celebrated the start of another exciting year. Parents shared how meaningful it was to be part of such a supportive school environment, filled with warmth and connection.

As one parent reflected, “My daughter keeps saying how she can’t wait to go back to school, and two years ago she hated school.” Another heartwarming moment came from a new student who said, “I feel like I can smile here.” These words reflect the heart of KGMS: a place where students feel safe, supported, and excited to learn.
