Senior (10-12)
We believe all students have the potential to meet provincial graduation requirements and receive their Dogwood Diploma. In the Kenneth Gordon Maplewood Senior School Program, students work in small group settings to develop the skills and attributes that will drive success in their educational journey. This includes academic, personal and employability skills such as resume writing, interview skills, workplace readiness and more.
The core academic program meets the academic requirements of the BC Ministry of Education for the Dogwood graduation program. Students graduate KGMS with 80 or more credits across the following subjects.
Academic
- Mathematics
- Language Arts
- Social studies
- Sciences
Applied Skills
- Applied Design, Skills and Technology (ADST)

- Physical and Health Education
- Career-Life Exploration
Experiential Education
We believe that a key role of any school is not only to prepare students for higher education but also to prepare them for life and their transition to independence.
Through field study, co-curricular clubs, work experience and job shadowing, senior students are given the opportunity to explore areas of interest and focus on personal passions.
Senior students are provided access to overnight experiences and outdoor education.
Career-Life Exploration
Career-Life Education consists of classroom instruction, exploration of post-graduation opportunities, post-secondary education, and the world of work. Senior students reflect on their talents, personal characteristics, and academic strengths to plan for their life post KGMS.
We encourage students to explore a wide breadth of options and set appropriate goals for their future. This course gives students an opportunity to further refine their career-life goals and transferable skills.
Career-life exploration also includes substantive experiential learning (30 hours or more) that is intended to expand and/or deepen student exposure to career-life possibilities.
Graduation
We work closely with all senior students to put a plan in place for their life after graduation. Whether it’s supporting applications to post-secondary schools, helping students discover their passion or secure a job—we’re here to ensure they are prepared for the next step.
We are grateful to be living, working and learning on the unceded traditional and ancestral lands of the Coast Salish territory of the Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish) and sel̓íl̓witulh (Tsleil-Waututh) nations.
