Rushforth thought, he needed a school that would teach him the way he learned. Soon after, she began tutoring sessions in the Elementary Tutoring Centre in Burnaby. As the school became more established, the Burnaby campus opened in 1980. It later became designated as a Group 1 Independent School. Once the lease expired at the Burnaby Campus, KGMS moved to the North Shore in 2012. Our school was quickly growing with a building expansion, increased student intake, and our first official graduating class in 2016.

There are various special events and spirit days where students are allowed to wear their home clothes for the day.

- [Senior (10-12)](https://kgms.ca/academics/senior-school/): We believe all students have the potential to meet provincial graduation requirements and receive their Dogwood Diploma. In the Kenneth Gordon Maplewood Senior School Program, students work in small group settings to develop the skills and attributes that will drive success in their educational journey. This includes academic, personal and employability skills such as resume writing, interview skills, workplace readiness and more.
