Middle (7-9)

Core Program

Building upon the foundation of the Junior Program, the Kenneth Gordon Maplewood Middle School Program provides students with a platform to explore areas of interest in Applied Skills and Arts, while continuing to develop strong academic skills across Language Arts, Socials, Science and Mathematics.

Maintaining a seated classroom model, students in Grades 7 to 9 are overseen by subject specialists throughout the curriculum.

Student agency and voice within their Individual Education Plan (IEP) is of greater focus during this time. We empower middle school students to take ownership over their learning and future pathways as they transition towards their senior years and the graduation program.

Transition to Senior Years

During Grade 9, daily tutoring continues only for those students for whom it is recommended. Middle school students continue to have two educators per classroom with subject-specific partnerships. Numeracy and literacy courses are supported by a specialist, allowing for curriculum-specific planning and individualized instruction.

An additional support block provides small-group instruction tailored to the needs of each student. The support block may include academic, social or executive functioning components. In our academics program, the Middle School is designed to support students with the transition to senior curriculum.
